The Client

The client is a leading provider of clinical software, connectivity, and information solutions for more than 20,000 physicians across the United States. Their solutions, which help healthcare providers to achieve enhanced outcomes, are used by the physician as well as patients to other stakeholders in the healthcare delivery process.

The Challenge

The client provides a practice management system (PMS) as part of its healthcare product suite that enables practice-wide clinical workflow automation and allows users to streamline patient information management. The company wants to upgrade the existing client server PMS to a web-based system that encompasses claims management, billing processes, instant reporting capabilities, and multiple-resource scheduling. The project aimed to achieve a Windows look and feel and maximize performance in a web-based application.

The Solution

Excellarate performaed a detailed study of the client’s needs and proposed the architecture for the product upgrade with a proof of concept to demonstrate the same. The new PMS was a joint development effort by the client and Excellarate. The primary goal was to develop web-based, specialty-specific system that essentially:

  • Improves billing and collections
  • Provides multiple resource scheduling
  • Offers instant reporting with drill-down capability

This application facilitates clinical physicians with the following features:

  • Information Broker
  • Dashboard
  • Utilities

Security Manager
The Security Manager sub-system was designed to address user and group maintenance needs and facilitates to set role-based security permissions and options.

Security Monitor
This application provides details of the applications related to PMS running on the system at a given time once the user logs in and includes details such as organization, user, application name, and logon time.

Job Manager
The Job Manager manages the jobs runningat a given timeas part of PMS application.

The team experimented with various 3rd party controls and was successful in matching the performance expectations. The application was delivered with Windows look and feel, with all features as requested.

The Outcome

The upgraded web-based Practice Management System (PMS) system provided the following benefits:

  • Ability to deploy in hospitals with around 50 -500 clinical physicians
  • Hassle-free installation so that physicians only need the browser to access the application
